How does Zithromax work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Zithromax belongs to group of the drugs called antibiotics. Azithromycin depresses peptide-translocase on transmission stage, suppresses proteosynthesis, decreases growth and replication of bacteria. It possesses bactericidal effect. The medication acts on extra-cellular cellicolous germs. Azithromycin is not effective against gram-positive bacteria resistant to erythromycin.

Which conditions are treated with Zithromax?

Zithromax is used to treat the following conditions:

• Upper respiratory tract infections and ENT organs caused by sensitive germs: pharyngitis, tonsillitis,laryngitis, sinusitis, otitis media, scarlatina respiratory tract infections
• Lower respiratory tract infections: pneumonia, bronchitis
• Infections of skin and soft tissues: erysipelas, impetigo, secondarily infected dermatosis
• Urinary infections: gonorrheal and non-gonorrheal urethritis, cervicitis
• Lyme disease
• Stomach and duodenal ulcer

What should a patient know before using Zithromax?

The Zithromax should not be used in cases of:

• Hypersensitivity
• Liver and renal insufficiency

The medication should be used with caution in cases of:

• Pregnancy
• Arrhythmia
• Breastfeeding

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of Zithromax include:

• In digestive system: diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, vomit, flatulence, melena, cholestatic jaundice; in children: constipation, decrease of appetite, candidiasis of the mouth mucous membranes
• In cardiovascular system: heartbeat, pain in the chest
• In nervous system: dizziness, headache, drowsiness; in children: headache, hyperanakinesia, anxiety, neurosis, sleep disorder
• In urinary system: vaginal candidiasis
• Allergic reactions: rash, urticaria, skin itch, angioedema

• Anticoagulants
• Cardiac glycosides
• Alpha-adrenoblockers
• Sedatives

• Diabetes treatment
• Diuretics
• Immunosuppressors
• Xantines
• Alkaloids
• Other antibiotics
• Heparin
