How does Lamisil work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Lamisil is an anti-fungal preparation which in low concentrations exerts fungicidal effect against a broad-spectrum of fungi. The preparation inhibits the primary stage of sterine biosynthesis in a fungal cell which leads to deficiency of ergosterine and intracellular accumulation of squalene which in turn causes death of the fungal cell.

Which conditions are treated with Terbinafine?

The preparation is indicated in treatment of:

• Onychomycosis
• Hair mycosis
• Dermatomycosis
• Skin and mucous membrane mycosis

What should a patient know before using Lamisil?

The Terbinafine should not be used in cases of:

• Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation or to other antimycotics
• Pregnancy
• Lactation period
• Young age prior to 2 years

The preparation should be used with extreme caution in:

• Patients with renal or liver function

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of Lamisil include:

• Gastrointestinal tract: feeling of full stomach, anorexia, dyspepsia, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, change of taste
• Haemopoietic system: Neutropenia, thrombocytopenia
• Allergic reactions
• Local reactions

Which groups of drugs or specific preparations may interact with Terbinafine?

The drug is affected by the following:

• Antibiotics
• H2-histamine receptor blockers
