How does Viagra work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

The active ingredient of Viagra - Sildenafil Citrate belongs to a group of medicines called PDE5 inhibitors(phosphodiesterase type 5). By blocking this enzyme Viagra increases the amount of NO in the cavernous body of the penis and thus increases blood flow to the penis. Viagra is effective only in the case of sexual excitement.

Which conditions are treated with Viagra?

Viagra is indicated for the treatment of erection disorders that are characterized with inability to achieve and maintain an erection enough for the sexual intercourse.

What should a patient know prior to taking the medication?

Viagra should not be taken in known intolerance of any ingredients of the preparation. Before taking Viagra pills you should inform your doctor if any of these conditions apply to you:

• Cardiovascular disease including high or low blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, arrhythmia
• Retinitis pigmentosa
• Sickle cell anemia
• Blood diseases such as multiple myeloma, leukemia
• Any penis deformations

Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?

The side effects of Viagra include: dyspepsia, headache, flushing, drowsiness, dizziness, infections of the urogenital system, diarrhea, dizziness, skin rash, infections of the respiratory system, joint and back pain, common cold symptoms.

• Antifungal agents
